The Nautical Almanac is the cornerstone for all sight reduction. The Nautical Almanac lists the positions of the sun, moon, stars and planets that are used for celestial navigation. It also contains a short version of a sight reduction table as well as much other valuable information for the offshore navigator. The 2002 Nautical Almanac Commercial Edition is now available. This edition contains the exact same data as the edition published by the United States Naval Observatory, plus the last two months from the previous year. The copyright for the Nautical Almanac is owned by a UK government organization, the Council for the Central Laboratory for the Research Councils (CCLRC). In 1999 representatives from and Paradise Cay Publications and CCLRC entered into an agreement giving Paradise Cay exclusive authorization to print and publish the Nautical Almanac Commercial Edition.
